The rain had stopped, but the air still held the cold. Sarah sat on the wooden bench near the library. Her hands wrapped around a paper cup of coffee. The drink had gone lukewarm an hour ago. She watched a woman walk by with two children. One child held the other's hand. They laughed. The sound was bright. It cut through the gray sky. Sarah looked down at her own hands. They looked foreign. She knew their shape. A small scar marked her left thumb. It was from a kitchen accident years ago. Right now, they felt like they belonged to someone else. She felt like a ghost in her own skin.
She had been sitting there for three hours. She was not waiting for anyone. She was waiting for the feeling to leave. The silence in her head was loud. It whispered that she was broken. It whispered that she was too much. Or not enough. Or both. She wanted to pray. But the words stuck in her throat. She felt she needed to explain herself first. She needed to lay out the history. The pain. The shame. The mess. She thought God needed to understand why she was asking for help. She felt like a stranger knocking on a closed door. She was afraid of rejection. So she stayed quiet. She stayed still. She watched the world move around her. It was vivid and real. She remained suspended in a fog of doubt.
You Do Not Need a Key
You are already inside. You do not stand at the door knocking. You have a home, and the barrier is gone. It is settled that you are seated with Christ in the heavenly places. Ephesians 2:19 names you a fellow citizen and a member of the household of God. The Holy Spirit confirms this standing in your heart. You are not a guest waiting for permission. You are at home.
The Holy Spirit does not ask for your resume. He does not require a list of failures. He makes the truth real to you in the silence. He reminds you that you are loved because of who you are in Christ, not because of what you have done. It is written that you received the Spirit of adoption. Galatians 4:7 declares that you are no longer a servant but a son. That identity is yours now.
You are a new creation. The old things have passed away. Everything is becoming new. This is not a wish; it is a fact. The Holy Spirit confirms this in your spirit right now. You are not a problem to be solved. You are a person to be loved. You are not a case file. You are a child. 2 Corinthians 6:18 promises that God will be a Father to you, and you shall be His sons and daughters.
The shame you feel is a liar. It tells you that you are unclean and too far gone. The Holy Spirit tells you the truth. You are clean. You are accepted. You are free. He is the seal of your inheritance, the guarantee that God's word is true. Ephesians 1:13 states that you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. He lives in you. He connects you to the Father. You are secure.
You are not alone on that bench. The Holy Spirit is with you. He is present and active in the quiet places of your soul. He brings peace to the storm. You do not have to force your way into conversation. You do not have to perform. You do not have to explain. Just open your hand and receive. The Spirit is already doing the work. John 14:18 promises that He will not leave you orphans. You are held.
For as many as received him, to them he gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.John 1:12
You are looking at your hands. You are feeling the cold. Now, you are hearing the silence. You are carrying the shame. You are sitting on the bench, feeling like a stranger. But you are home. You have always been home. The distance you feel is a lie. The barrier you feel is a lie. The silence you hear is not the voice of God. It is the voice of the enemy. Scripture stands beneath that truth.
God is not waiting for you to explain. God is not waiting for you to justify. Yet, god is not waiting for you to be perfect. God is waiting for you to come. And you are already coming. You are already here. The Holy Spirit is already moving. The truth is already working. You do not have to do anything to make it true. You just have to believe it. Still, you just have to receive it. You just have to open your heart and let the Spirit in.
You are not outside. And, you are inside. You are not rejected. You are accepted. Now, you are not forgotten. You are remembered. You are not alone. Yet, you are loved. This is your life in Christ. You do not have to earn it. You do not have to maintain it. Still, you just have to live in it. The Holy Spirit confirms it beside you now, for the word says you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
Declare this over yourself
- Silence, you do not have to wait for a full explanation before you speak. I am already seated with Christ in the heavenly places, and I have access now. I am not waiting to be shown in, because I live here.
- Fear that I am a stranger in my own body, get out of my house. Peace, you belong to me now, and I am a new creation in Jesus Christ. I am not a case file to be reviewed, I am a child who is already accepted.
- Father, I come in without knocking because I live here. I place my hand over my heart and I rest in the truth that I am home. I am not explaining my way in, I am receiving what is already mine in the name of Jesus.
