The Door Is Not Locked

This message is for to know that I am not a guest who must pack up and leave when the party gets too loud

The kitchen light was the only one on. It was a small, yellow circle on the linoleum floor. Mara stood in the middle of it. She held a glass of water that had gone warm. Her hand was shaking. Not from cold. From the sound of the party in the next room. Laughter. Music. The clink of plates. She had been invited. She had walked in. She had eaten. But now the noise was getting too loud. The conversation was moving in a circle she could not join. She felt the urge to pack up. To put on her coat. To walk to the door, open it, and leave before anyone noticed she was gone. Before she was asked why she was still standing there, holding a warm glass, looking at the floor. She thought, I am just a guest here. I do not belong in this house. I am staying until I am told to go.

She looked at the door. The handle was cold under her finger.

Then she stopped. She looked at the wall. There was a hook there. It was not holding a coat. It was holding a small, blue towel. It was the towel she had used to wipe the counter when she first arrived. It was there. Still, it was not packed. It was not in a bag by the door. It was hanging on the hook, waiting for her to use it again. She realized the door was not locked from the inside. It was unlocked from the outside. And no one was coming to kick it in. The party was not a test. It was just a party. And she was not a guest who had overstayed. She was someone who had been given a place to stand.

You Are Not a Guest

That heavy stone in the chest whispers that presence is conditional. It tells the heart to behave or be cast out. The spirit keeps its luggage packed, ready to run the moment the noise rises. But you are not a guest. You are home. The written word and the Holy Spirit stand together to seal that standing.

A guest has a room but no name on the deed. A guest can be asked to leave at any time. That is the rhythm of the law. It checks the clock. It waits for the error. That cold, lonely cycle no longer governs these days. The address has changed. The name on the deed has changed. When Christ was received, a key was handed over. It is not a temporary pass. It is permanent residence.

The Holy Spirit did not come as a manager. He came as a witness. He speaks into the mind. He says, This one belongs to Me. The promise of adoption is written and confirmed by His presence. You are not a pattern of performance. You are a son. You are a daughter. This is a legal fact settled before birth. The Holy Spirit is the seal of that fact. He is pressed into the heart so ownership is known, not rental. As Romans 8:16 declares, the Spirit testifies with our spirits that we are children of God. You are claimed by the Father.

When the urge to pack up rises, listen to the lie. It says the person is too much. It says the person is too loud. It says the person is too broken. The house was not built for perfect guests. It was built for broken children being made whole. The noise is not danger. It is life. You are not an intruder. You are a part of it. The Holy Spirit is weaving the person into the family. He is sitting at the table. The written word anchors the place in that living household.

A standing has already been granted. It is not something to work toward. It is not something to earn. It is something held today. The paper is signed. The ink is dry. There is no need to perform to keep it. There is no need to be loud to be heard. You are a permanent resident. You have a right to be in the house. You have a right to sit at the table. The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of that right. He is the deposit that ensures the whole house is yours. He holds the door open. Come in. You belong here.

The door is not locked. The key is in the hand. The deed is in the drawer. The witness is in the room. The written word stands firm. The Holy Spirit breathes life into the fact. The standing is secure. The presence is welcome. The home is real.

"As many as received him, to him he gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in his name, who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."John 1:12
The breakthrough

You are looking at your life, and you are feeling like a guest. You are feeling like you have to perform. Still, you are feeling like you have to be perfect. You are feeling like you might be kicked out. But that is not the truth. That is a lie. The truth is that you are a child. You are a son. You are a daughter. And, you have a name on the deed. You have a key to the house. You have a place at the table. Now, you are not a guest. You are family. And family does not pack up and leave. Family stays. Family belongs. You belong. The word says you are a child, and the Holy Spirit testifies to that standing today.

Declare this over yourself

  1. Guest, your stay is over. The word says the servant does not abide in the house for ever, but the Son abides for ever. I am a permanent resident, and the name on the deed is mine.
  2. Fear that I am just a visitor who must pack up and leave, get out of my heart. What God has written is that you are no longer a servant but a son, and the Holy Spirit seals this truth in my heart. I claim this standing in the name of Jesus.
  3. Father, I am sitting at Your table today. I am not checking the clock to see if I am still allowed to stay. I am resting in the fact that You have made me Your child.

Why we ask you to say these out loud
