The Door Is Already Open

This message is for I am scrolling through my phone in a break room at work and I want to call out Abba but I am afraid my coworkers will hear me and think I have lost my mind

The fluorescent lights in the break room hum at a frequency that gets into your teeth. You are sitting at the plastic table, the one with the cracked corner that catches the light, holding your phone. Your thumb hovers over the screen. You are alone, but you are not. Two coworkers are by the coffee machine, laughing about a meeting that went wrong. Their voices fill the small room. You want to say a word. Just one. Abba. It is sitting on the tip of your tongue, heavy and sweet. But you swallow it back down. You look at the people laughing. You look at the wall. Still, you decide to wait. You decide to wait for a moment when no one is watching. You decide to wait until you are sure no one will judge you. And, you put the phone face down on the table. The silence in your chest feels louder than the coffee machine.

You Do Not Need Permission to Enter

You are standing in a room you already own. The fear that says you must wait for an invitation is a lie. It tells you that the door is locked and you are just a stranger banging on the wood. But the door is not locked. It is open. It has been open since the moment you believed. The Holy Spirit is not standing outside, waiting for you to knock. He is inside, with you, right now. It is written that you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

You are not a visitor in your own life. You are a child in your own home. When you feel like you are waiting for permission, you are listening to the wrong voice. You are listening to the voice of the world, which values approval. But the voice of God values intimacy. He does not want your performance. He wants your presence. He wants to know you when no one else does. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of adoption. That word means a legal change of status. It means you are no longer a servant who has to work for love. You are a son. A daughter. An heir. The Holy Spirit is in you, not as a guest, but as a member of the family. Galatians 4:7 says therefore you are no longer a servant but a son.

You are not alone in this fear. Many people walk on the outside of their faith because they are afraid of being seen. They pray in whispers. They worship in private corners. They hide their hope because the world mocks it. But hiding does not make you safer. It only makes you lonelier. God sees you in the break room. He sees you in the car. He sees you in the dark. He is not embarrassed by you. He is proud of you. The Holy Spirit is the one who prays in you when you do not know what to say. He is the one who turns your silent longing into a loud praise. He is with you, and He is not ashamed of your quiet prayers. The same Spirit who was given to you bears witness with your spirit that you are children of God.

You are not defined by the eyes of your coworkers. You are defined by the eyes of your Father. What they think is temporary. What He thinks is eternal. The world looks at your actions and judges your character. God looks at your heart and sees His image. He knows the weight you are carrying. He knows the fear that makes you hold your tongue. He is not angry at your silence. He is patient with your fear. The Holy Spirit is the comforter. He comes to you in your weakness, not in your strength. He meets you where you are, not where you think you should be. He is gentle. He is kind. Now, He is near. It is written that He will not leave you orphans.

You are not disqualified by your doubt. Doubt is not the opposite of faith. Doubt is part of the journey. The disciples doubted. The apostles doubted. Even Peter doubted when he walked on water. God does not reject you for your questions. He answers them. He walks with you through them. The Holy Spirit is the teacher. He guides you into all truth. He does not rush you. He does not shame you. He waits for you. Yet, He holds you. He loves you. He has promised that the Spirit of His Son is in your hearts.

"As many as received him, to him gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"John 1:12
The breakthrough

You are looking at your phone. You are in the break room. The coffee machine is humming. Your coworkers are laughing. You feel the fear rise in your throat. It is a familiar fear. It is the fear of being seen. It is the fear of being judged. But look at your hand. Look at your heart. You are not a stranger. You are a child. The door is open. You do not need to wait. You do not need to hide. And, you can say it now. You can say it quietly. You can say it in your heart. Now, you can say it out loud. It does not matter how it sounds. It matters that it is true. You are loved. You are known. Yet, you are accepted. The written word says you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens and members of the household of God. The Holy Spirit is with you. He is not watching to see if you fail. He is watching to see if you receive. He is waiting for you to open your hand. He is waiting for you to open your mouth. Still, he is waiting for you to believe that you belong. You belong. You have always belonged. The name you carry is not a secret. It is a privilege. You are a son. You are a daughter. And, you are a heir. You are free. Christ has settled that standing in the Word.

Declare this over yourself

  1. Break room with the humming lights, you do not hold me back. I am a child in my own home, and I do not wait for an invitation to speak. The door is open, and I am entering now.
  2. Fear of being judged, get out of my chest. I evict you in the name of Jesus, because the Word says I have power to become a son of God. My presence is enough, and I am accepted by my Father.
  3. God, I am opening my mouth right now. I am speaking your name without hiding, because I live here. My hand is on my heart, and I am receiving the freedom to come in without knocking.
