The House Kept Your Place

This message is for to rest in the fact that I am still in the house even though I have been lying in the garden for three days without answering the phone

The phone lay on the kitchen counter, face down. The screen was cracked, a spiderweb fracture running from the top corner down to the middle. For three days, it had not rung. For three days, Maya had not picked it up. She sat on the edge of the bed, her back against the wall, staring at the window where the light had turned gray. The house was quiet. Not the good kind of quiet, the kind where you can hear the refrigerator hum. The bad kind. The kind where the silence presses against your ears until they ring. She had stopped answering texts from her mother. She had stopped checking her email. She had told herself it was rest. But it was not rest. It was hiding. She felt like a ghost in her own life. She believed that if she stayed still enough, invisible enough, the world would forget she was there. She thought that because she was not performing, she was not loved. She thought the house was empty because she had left the garden and refused to come back in.

The House Is Not Empty

You are sitting in the garden right now. You have been lying in the dirt for days, maybe weeks, maybe longer. The phone is not being answered. The door is not being opened. You are waiting for a knock that you have decided will not come. You are waiting for a voice that you have convinced yourself has gone quiet. The silence feels like erasure to you. It feels like the connection has been cut. But the house is not empty. The lights are still on. The door is still unlocked. Your standing is not based on your performance. It is based on your belonging. You were received, not hired. You were not promoted. Still, you were given a place. That place is yours now. The Holy Spirit confirms this truth in your heart. He is the witness that you are a child of God. He is not waiting for you to fix yourself before He comes near. He is already near. He is the presence that does not require your permission to enter your room. And, he is the air in the house that you do not have to ask for to breathe.

The world tells you that presence is earned by output. It tells you that if you stop showing up, you stop mattering. It tells you that love is a transaction, and if you stop paying, the account closes. That is not how the house works. In the house, the standing is not based on your work. It is based on your identity. You are an heir. The heir does not check their watch to see if they are still welcome. The heir does not hover by the door waiting for permission to walk through it. The heir walks through it because the door was never locked to begin with. You are not a guest who must prove their worth every morning. You are the son or daughter of the King. This is the truth that the silence tries to hide from you. You are not a pattern of silence that God has abandoned. You are a child who has been sitting in the garden, and the Father is still in the room. And hear this clearly: I am not speaking my own comfort over you. I am speaking what God already declared in His written word, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes that word breathe in your lungs right now.

You have been lying in the garden because you were afraid that if you came back in, you would be judged. You were afraid that the Father would ask why you were gone. Now, you were afraid that the silence would be answered with disappointment. But the Father does not ask why you were gone. He asks if you are ready to come in. He does not bring a ledger. He brings a table. He does not bring a list of your failures. Yet, he brings the smell of bread baking. He does not bring the cold. He brings the warmth of a fire that has been kept burning for you. Your standing is secure because of His character, not your consistency. The Bible says that nothing can separate you from the love of God. This love is in Christ Jesus our Lord. The Holy Spirit seals this promise in you. He is the guarantee of your inheritance. He is not shouting at you to come in. He is sitting by the window, watching the garden, knowing that you are out there, knowing that you are tired, knowing that you are afraid. The Spirit is not angry at your silence. The Spirit is patient with your silence.

"But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in his name."John 1:12
The breakthrough

You are looking at the phone. You are looking at the silence. Still, you are looking at the three days of darkness. You think that because you did not answer, you have lost your place. You think that because you hid, you have been removed. But you have not been removed. You have been waiting. You have been waiting for the truth to catch up to your fear. And it has caught up. Your standing is not based on your responsiveness. It is based on His faithfulness. His faithfulness does not check your call history. It does not read your text messages. It does not judge your silence. It simply waits for you to come home. You are a child who has been lying in the garden, and the house is still standing. The door is still open. The light is still on. You do not have to earn your way back in. You do not have to perform your way back in. And, you do not have to explain your way back in. You just have to walk through the door. The breakthrough is not that God has changed. The breakthrough is that you have finally believed that He did not. You are home. You have always been home. The Holy Spirit is the one who opens your eyes to see this. He is the one who makes you see the door that was never locked. He is the one who gives you the strength to walk through it. He is with you right now. He is with you in the garden. Now, he is with you at the door. He is with you inside. Scripture stands beneath that truth.

Declare this over yourself

  1. Silence, your power to erase me ends at the door, because the Word says I was received, not hired, and my standing is not based on my output. The lights are still on and the door is still unlocked, proving that I am not a guest who overstayed but the heir who belongs. I hold that standing today, and nothing I do this week alters it.
  2. Fear, get out of my mind, in the name of Jesus, because I am not an orphan who has been forgotten but a child who has been missed. The house did not sell my place while I was in the garden, and my worth is not measured by my responsiveness. I am still in the house, and I am safe here.
  3. Father, I am standing in the doorway and I am walking through, because Your faithfulness does not check my call history. I am resting in the fact that I am Your child, and the papers are signed. I am home, and I have always been home.
